At Living Waters we feel the Biblical importance for caring for widows(and widowers). The Bible calls out for us to care for the widows so, we at Living Waters are going to do so. God commands us to care for orphans and widows. When He gave the Law to Moses and the Israelites, He gave instructions for how to treat the orphans and widows among them—with harsh consequences promised if they failed in their responsibility. Exodus 22:22-23 says, “You shall not afflict any widow or fatherless child. 23 If you afflict them in any way, and they cry at all to Me, I will surely hear their cry“. In the New Testament, James says that taking care of the needs of orphans and widows is part of religion “pure and faultless” James 1:27 tells us, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world“.Caring for those in distress is not optional for followers of Christ.
The Widows/Widowers will meet monthly for fellowship. Bible study and prayer will be a focus, as well as outings together. Cards and calls, visits and care will be at the forefront. The Widows ministry will engage in fundraisers to help the group and the church, be a support system to one another and be of service to/with the Pastor and his wife. The needs of the widows will be met by communications and calls, with an occasional speaker or two to meet to discuss and discourse grieving and other topics that are specific to this group.
We invite you to “Come and See” what God is doing in the lives of our widows/widowers here at Living Waters.
